Creative ways of working with our community

Community engagement

Heritage and Hope projects

These projects were made possible thanks to the generous support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

August - November 2024

An oral histories project capturing the many stories woven into the fabric of our building.

Local community radio station Skylark worked with the local Methodist community to gather their stories of years gone by.

The stories and artefacts we uncovered have now been passed to The Valiant Soldier museum, who are adding them to their archives.

April - October 2024

We worked with local artisan group Woolly Nanas to co-create a community weaving project.

The aim was to bring the community of Buckfastleigh together, using local fleece, spun, dyed and woven locally, to capture people’s experiences of the town and celebrate our heritage.

What might the future of this building hold for you?

We held a weekend of collective conversations and creativity supported by Gaby Lovatt from Participate Arts and printmaker Gary Winters to imagine into the future of our building.

Other community projects

We co-created an event bringing people together in song to celebrate the summer solstice and bless our building.

Thank you to Briony Greenhill, Holly Ebony and Lucinda Guy for bringing this idea to life!

We commissioned local artist Charlie Narewski-Scullion to create a mural to brighten up a nearby alleyway.

Co-created with local people, the mural captures the natural wonder of the River Dart as it travels through Buckfastleigh from the moor to the sea.

Thanks to Buckfastleigh Town Council for their support.
