Community weaving project with Woolly Nanas

Moor Threads

Celebrating our woolly heritage

Buckfastleigh is famed for its history as a wool town, and the old Methodist Church itself was built by the mill owners for the local community.

In this community weaving project we brought this history to life with the help of local artisan group the Woolly Nanas.

Through a series of workshops here at MIC and out in the community, we involved a wide range of people in the processing of wool from raw fleece to finished weavings: spinning, dying and weaving on both small frames and on a shared 'story loom'.

The weavings that were produced are on display in the MIC foyer.
